May 2011 to Present

Research Officer, IIRBS, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India Job responsibilities include teaching, institute administration, academic and research programme coordination, organize workshops and conferences.

 

January 2008 to December 2010

Research Associate, CIE, UNAM, Mexico Fuel cell materials research group. Developing new inexpensive catalyst materials without compromising on fuel cell performance. Explore new low-cost materials and technologies for fuel cell collector plates.

 

March 2006 to August 2007

Postdoctoral Research Associate, W.M Keck Center for 3-D innovation, University of Texas at El Paso, El Paso, TX. Developing metallic coatings on complex structures (prototypes) made of photopolymers (epoxy resins) by stereolithography. Electroless and electroplating process development on photopolymers for structural integrity. Selective area metal deposition by laser masking for electrical applications (circuitry).

 

September 2004 to May 2005

Assistant Instructor, University of Texas El Paso Graded papers and supervised graduate and undergraduate students.

 

June – July, 2003

Visiting Scholar, Energy Research Centre, CIE, UNAM, Mexico Worked with an electrochemistry group in testing fuel cells. Designed and tested Membrane/electrode assemblies of PEM fuel cells.

 

January 2003 – August 2005

Research Assistant, Fuel Cell Project at The University of Texas at El Paso, Worked as a part of a department of defense (USA) sponsored fuel cell group, fabricated and tested PEM fuel cells. Developed, deposited, and tested conductive and corrosion resistant polymer coatings for PEM fuel cell bipolar plates. Made experimental membrane/electrode assemblies to improve fuel cell performance.

 

Technical Skills

 
  • Electroless and electroplating of metals on conductive and non conductive materials.

  • Conducting polymer film development on metals and their characterization.

  • Electrochemical corrosion tests.

  • Fuel cell fabrication, membrane electrode assembly (MEA) preparation and testing.

  • Material characterization using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and FTIR spectroscopy.

  • Electrochemical testing methods – Cyclic voltammetry, potentiodynamic polarization methods, galvanostatic and potentiostatic methods and data interpretation.

  • Rapid prototyping – stereolithography.

  • 3D modeling (SolidWorks).
